PURPLE HERON: Black on crown and upperparts less glossy 70-90 cm. Slate upperparts and wing coverts, than adults. With chestnut scapulars in breeding plumage; Adult with black crown, fresh flight feathers; chesnut underparts; neck chestnut with two glossy feathers on upper and underparts. Black lateral lines; yellowish legs and bill. Juveniles with buff upperparts.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Summer visitor, very scarce breeder with records only in the Ebro Basin

HONEY BUZZARD: 51-58 cm. Brown upperparts; pale underparts, with dark mottled; dark brown upperwing and pale underwing; dark bill; yellow eye.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Summer visitor breeding scarcely in mountainous areas (Pyrenees and Moncayo); very common on passage.
EGYPTIAN VULTURE: 58-70 cm. Adult white, with black feathers on wings; head and throat unfeathered, with yellow skin. Juvenile dark brown.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Summer visitor, distributed throughout
open landscapes if food and cliffs for breeding are present.

HEN HARRIER: 43-51 cm. Adult male with grey head and up-perparts; underparts grey on breast and white on vent; black wing-tips; grey tail; white rump. Adult female with dark brown upper-parts; underparts light brown with dark streaked; white rump; dark barred tail and wings. Juvenile similar to females, but with underparts tinged rusty-yellow. Length of 10th primary between 5th and 6th; the beginning of emargination of 9th primary hidden by primary coverts.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Mainly a winter visitor, with a little pairs of breeding birds in the Ebro Valley, Gallocanta and South of Teruel; in winter a common species in plain cultivated areas of the region.

BOOTED EAGLE: 46-53 cm. With feathered legs to the toes; this eagle has two morphs: the pale morph with white underparts and dark flight feathers; the dark morph with dark brown plumage.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Summer visitor. Widely distributed throughout the Region, more common in forests with mixture of open ground.

RED-LEGGED PARTRIDGE: 33-38 cm. Brown reddish upperparts; grey breast, reddish on belly; black streaked neck; chestnut, black and white streaks on flanks; bill, ocular ring and legs red.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Resident. Widely distributed throughout the Region, absent only from some areas of the Pyrenees.

BEE-EATER: 27-29 cm. Reddish chestnut crown and upper mantle; rump golden yellow; green tail and underparts; yellow throat; black and curved bill; reddish iris.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Summer visitor. Widely distributed throughout the Region, absent from the highest zones of the Pyrenees and the most deforested areas of the Ebro Basin.

HOOPOE: 25-28 cm. Brownish upperparts, with transver-
sal black and white lines; pink-vinaceous breast; white underparts; head with a pink crest with black and white tips; wings and tail
black with white bands; long and curved bill.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Summer visitor with some scarce wintering birds. Breeds widely distributed throughout the Region, absent only from Northern areas.

BLUETHROAT: 13-14 cm. Brown upperparts and central tail
feathers; reddish tail with a terminal dark band on the tip; pale supercilium; pale belly; blue throat in breeding male and lacking blue (or
with little) on non breedeing males and females.
STATUS IN ARAGON: On passage, sometimes wintering in the Ebro Valley. Some records breeding in Montes Universales.

GOLDEN ORIOLE: 22-25 cm. Male with deep yellow body and
wings and tail black. Female and juveniles with green olive feathers; underparts with diffuse streaks; wing and tail brownish; in adults
bill and eye reddish.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Summer visitor. Widely distributed throughout all forests of the Region, absent from the
Pyrenees.

RED-BACKED SHRIKE: 17-18 cm. Adults with reddish/brown upper-parts; male with grey crown and black eye-stripe; pale underparts; female without black on head; ochre head. Juvenile with reddish
plumage and barred.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Summer visitor, breeding in open pastures with small trees; widely distributed in Pyrenees and very located in Sistema Iberico.

CHOUGH: 36-42 cm. Glossy black plumage; pointed and
decurved bill; red bill and legs.
STATUS IN ARAGON: Resident. Distributed throughout the Region breeding on cliffs and buildings.
